Gelotti is a family-owned ice cream and gelato company based in Paterson, New Jersey, with more than 40 years of history serving North Jersey. Founded by Salvatore Sigona, Gelotti was built on the belief that great desserts come from quality ingredients, hard work, and treating customers like family.
What began as Salvatore Sigona’s vision on Union Avenue has grown into one of Paterson’s most recognizable food institutions. Today, that legacy continues through his two sons, Robert and Joseph Sigona, who proudly run the shop and oversee daily operations. Together, they’ve modernized the business while preserving the recipes, standards, and values that made Gelotti a local favorite.
Our approach remains intentionally hands-on. From sourcing ingredients to developing flavors and serving customers, every part of the process reflects our belief that great ice cream starts with integrity. We don’t chase trends—we perfect recipes. We don’t cut corners—we preserve standards.
Gelotti’s location on Union Avenue has become a neighborhood landmark, but our reach extends far beyond Paterson. Customers routinely visit from Totowa, Clifton, Little Falls, Wayne, and surrounding towns, while wholesale partners carry Gelotti products throughout New Jersey and neighboring states.
Despite that growth, Gelotti has remained proudly independent and family-run. That continuity allows us to stay accountable to our customers and deeply connected to the community that helped build our name.

Our Story
Gelotti’s story begins with its founder, Salvatore Sigona, whose passion for quality desserts and community laid the foundation for what would become a Paterson institution. More than 40 years ago, Salvatore opened Gelotti on Union Avenue with a simple goal: create exceptional ice cream and gelato while building something his family could be proud of.
From the beginning, Gelotti was about more than dessert. It was about consistency, craftsmanship, and relationships. Generations of families grew up stopping by after school, celebrating milestones with ice cream cakes, and making Gelotti part of their everyday lives.
In 2018, Salvatore officially passed the torch to his sons, Robert and Joseph Sigona. Under their leadership, Gelotti underwent thoughtful renovations and operational upgrades, ensuring the business could grow without losing its identity. The recipes stayed true, the standards stayed high, and the family ownership remained unchanged.
Today, Robert and Joseph continue to guide Gelotti forward—balancing tradition with innovation and honoring their father’s vision while expanding the brand’s reach across North Jersey and beyond.
Family & Legacy
Family is at the heart of everything Gelotti does. Founded by Salvatore Sigona and still operated exclusively by the Sigona family, Gelotti represents more than four decades of continuous family ownership in Paterson, New Jersey.
Salvatore built Gelotti with the understanding that longevity comes from trust—trust in your product, your process, and your people. That philosophy continues today under the leadership of his sons, Robert and Joseph Sigona, who proudly run the business and carry forward the standards set from day one.
Being family-owned means decisions are personal. Quality matters. Reputation matters. Every scoop served reflects the Sigona family name, and that accountability is something customers feel the moment they walk through the door.
As the business grows through retail, catering, and wholesale partnerships, Gelotti’s legacy remains rooted in family values, long-term relationships, and pride in craftsmanship.
Paterson Roots
Paterson is more than Gelotti’s address—it’s the foundation of the brand. Founded by Salvatore Sigona on Union Avenue, Gelotti has grown alongside the city, serving generations of residents and becoming a true neighborhood landmark.
Paterson’s history of entrepreneurship, diversity, and resilience mirrors Gelotti’s own journey. From day one, the shop has been a gathering place where families, friends, and visitors come together over great ice cream and gelato.
Today, under the leadership of Robert and Joseph Sigona, Gelotti remains deeply committed to its Paterson roots. While customers regularly travel in from Totowa, Clifton, Wayne, New York City, and even Connecticut, the heart of the business stays firmly planted in the city where it all began.
Gelotti’s continued presence on Union Avenue is a point of pride—not just for the Sigona family, but for the community that has supported the business for more than 40 years.
